Randi Thompson first discovered horses as a young girl where she rode bareback for years though the country sides of Minnesota. The horses in her life became her best friends and greatest teachers. It was the love of horses that inspired Randi on a journey that began with self discovery and personal growth.
As she grew into her professional horse career, her experience extended from pleasure riding to barrel racing, western pleasure, saddle seat, gaited horses (flat-shod Tennessee Walkers and Paso Finos), hunters/jumpers and dressage. Along the way, Randi developed her own ideas as well as working with, teaching, and judging with some of the top trainers in the international equestrian schools. In 1979 she trademarked “Horse and Rider Awareness™”. Now she is known as a trainer's trainer, teaching riders, instructors and trainers of all breeds and styles of riding.
Randi Thompson received her original certification from the Meredith Manor School of International Horsemanship in 1978. Randi has attended many clinics with world class trainers in the worlds of hunters, jumpers and dressage, and judging. She has also participated in three USDF Violet Hopkins National Dressage Instructors Programs.
Ms. Thompson has attended the judge training programs from the United States Equestrian Federation in Hunters, Hunter Seat Equitation and Jumpers. She learner-judged at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, for four years. She also attended two “L” USDF (U.S. Dressage Federation) programs in Florida.
Her method—the Horse and Rider Awareness® program—has received national recognition including headlining with presentations at the Equine Affaire, the U.S. Pony Club National Convention, the Florida Pet and Horse Expos, and many other regional and local equestrian events. She has also been a featured speaker on the nationally syndicated “Horse Show” with Rick Lamb. Randi has introduced the Horse and Rider Awareness® teaching techniques to the Horsemanship Safety Association, and her successful techniques have being taught to their clinicians and instructors throughout the United States and other countries.
